A 55,000-square-foot indoor adventure park is opening this week in Sterling Heights, which is expected to generate 120 jobs.

Urban Air Adventure Park plans a soft opening Friday and a grand opening on Saturday.

Franchisee Wes Ayar, who is also a franchisee for T-Mobile, and his business partner Andy Batal, who owns logistics and transportation company Warrior Freight in Madison Heights, are investing more than $4 million into the entertainment center at 12050 Hall Road. They also plan to open an additional four Urban Air locations in Michigan by the end of 2021.

The adventure park will boast attractions that are geared toward keeping kids active, Ayar said, including a sky rider indoor coaster, ropes course, climbing walls, bumper cars, tubes playground go-cart track and a four-lane "warrior obstacle course."

The park, in the former home of a Babies R Us store, will also have a full-service cafe, serving pizza, burgers, wings and more, Ayar said.

Other similar entertainment venues in metro Detroit include Sky Zone Trampoline Park, which has four locations in Southeast Michigan, and AirTime Trampoline & Game Park, which has five locations in metro Detroit.

The Urban Air Adventure Park can be utilized for birthday parties, church events, and corporate gatherings. Ayar said he sees the project as the "perfect chance to give back to the community," and plans to give a child in foster care a free birthday party every month through a partnership with Sterling Heights-based Friends Of Foster Kids.

Day passes to Urban Air Adventure Park in Sterling Heights range from $13.99 to $29.99 and monthly memberships cost $6.99-$36.99, according to Ayar.

Established in 2011, the Dallas-based entertainment company also has a location in Oxford, Ayar said.

The general contractor on the Sterling Heights project is West Bloomfield Township-based Ashmark Construction and Farmington-based Jeffery Scott Architects is designing the space.
